Latest Trends in Software Testing 2020

Biggest Software Testing Trends for 2020

Technology is constantly evolving and the field of software testing is undergoing continuous evolution. With the ongoing developments in technology, software testing experts have come up with the latest trends for the software testing industry.

In this guide, we’re keeping track of all of the biggest software trends this year and how you can apply to your work as a software tester in your business.

Software Testing Trends To Look Out For In 2020

Big Data Testing

Big data testing has already gained a lot of importance and will still continue to grow in the near future. This testing helps in the evaluation of the functionality as well as the performance of different applications. In the big data testing, the testers need to verify the effective processing of the terabytes of data. While data quality is an important factor of this testing, the quality is checked in terms of accuracy, validity, consistency, conformity, duplication, and more.

Test Automation

As per a report, the overall global automation testing market size is expected to grow from $12.6 billion in 2019 to $28.8 billion by 2024. The growth is staggering at the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 18% during the forecast period. Increasing the adoption of DevOps and Agile are some of the key factors driving the growth of the automation testing market.

IoT Testing

IoT has become a popular full-fledged market in recent times. By the year 2020, the number of smart devices is expected to increase to 20.8 billion. With the rapid growth of the IT sector, the Internet of Things market is also growing rapidly. IoT, as the latest trend of software testing, will help in safety assessment, evaluation of data integrity, monitoring of connection delay, and scalability testing.

DevOps development

According to Statista, only 9% of respondents have not yet accepted or are not planning to take DevOps. Such an indicator suggests that testing and monitoring of processes go to the same level with direct development.
In other words, testers now “come into play” at the start of development, and not at the end. Writing and testing processes will be even closer to ensure continuous iteration.

Demands for Cybersecurity and Risk Compliance

The digital revolution comes with many security threats. As such, CIOs and CTOs from almost every enterprise across all sectors continue to recognize the importance of security testing for their software, systems, applications, network. Software teams have to even work with their partners to make their products more resilient to threats, taking the cybersecurity shield to the new level.

Testing focused on Progressive Web Apps

Introduction of Progressive Web Apps (PWA) by Google marked the dawn of a new era in mobile app development. With PWA, you don’t need to download and install the app on the mobile phone, rather a web application (app) that makes use of modern web capabilities to deliver a web-like experience to the end-users. As per many case studies, PWA’s have resulted in better user engagement, new user conversions, etc. for companies like Twitter, AliExpress, and more.

Agile Test Automation

Although test automation has been one of the key QA trends in 2019, it is believed that automation testing trends in 2020 should move to an entirely new level compared with the previous year. According to the report from CollabNet VerionOne, in 2019, 97% of companies reported practicing Agile methods and in 2020 the number is still growing.

Protecting from computer hardware failures

Protecting from computer hardware failures

Introduction

Physically protecting a computer presents many of the same problems that arise when protecting typewriters, jewelry, and file cabinets. Like a typewriter, an office computer is something that many people inside the office need to access on an ongoing basis. Like jewelry, computers are very valuable and very easy for a thief to sell. But the real danger in having a computer stolen isn’t the loss of the system’s hardware but the value of the loss of the data that was stored on the computer’s disks. As with legal files and financial records, if you don’t have a backup – or if the backup is stolen with the computer – the data you have lost may well be irreplaceable. This blog post will give you tips and tricks on how to protect your computer from hardware failures.

Invest in a UPS

An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system supplies your computers with emergency power that lasts long enough for users to save their work and shut down safely after their office has lost electricity. It not only keeps your machines from unexpected shutdowns, but it also safeguards against the electrical surges, spikes, and dips that come from other issues not related to all-out power failures.

Regularly-Scheduled Maintenance

Computers hardware failures happen more often in poorly ventilated or dusty areas. Your desktop and laptop computers are made of delicate components, and excessive heat affects their performance and can cause irreparable damage. This is why they’re built with fans that keep them at ideal temperatures. Regularly cleaning your computers’ fans keeps them from overheating and helps them last longer.

Back up your data

Computer hardware failures happen to even the most vigilant among us. That’s why – if you want to keep your business running smoothly– you must back up mission-critical data early and often. It’s a good idea to back up your data to multiple places. That means backing up to a local server, for speedy recovery, and also to the cloud, so the data is safely stored offsite in case your office falls victim to disaster. A best practice is to schedule backups during off hours when there’s plenty of bandwidth available.

Know When It’s Time to Replace

Desktop PCs, laptops, and other hardware have varying lifecycles. As a business owner, you might be putting off replacing them until they’re completely obsolete, but this is a mistake.

Vibration

Vibration can put an early end to your computer system by literally shaking it apart. Even gentle vibration, over time, can work printed circuit boards out of their edge connectors, and integrated circuits out of their sockets. Vibration can cause hard disk drives to come out of alignment and increase the chance for catastrophic computer hardware failures – and resulting data loss. Here are some guidelines for vibration control: Isolate your computer from vibration as much as possible. If you are in a high-vibration environment, you can place your computer on a rubber or foam mat to dampen out vibrations reaching it, but make sure that the mat does not block ventilation openings. Laptop computers are frequently equipped with hard disks that are better at resisting vibration than are desktop machines Don’t put your printer on top of a computer. Printers are mechanical devices; they generate vibrations.

Software Testing Trends in 2020

If your company is taking steps to be a more digitally engaged business, congratulations – you’re on the path to innovation and success. But when trying to deliver high quality digital products across platforms on a variety of operating systems and networks, it’s important to remember to stay focused on software testing trends for the all-important user experience. To put any idea into a practical action plan, you need a strategy. The same goes for mobile testing: if you don’t have a strategy, you cannot test effectively and efficiently. In this article, we’ll explain shortly the factors you need to take into consideration when creating a winning testing strategy.

Software Testing Trends – Business processes built around the QA testing discipline

The most measured approach is to ensure that QA testers and business users review requirements, designs, and test cases, early and often, in order to ensure that every critical flow is understood across all teams. This is the most fundamental institutional QA strategy along which business users in any software organization should align themselves.

Software Testing Trends – Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Testing

Intelligent automation will continue to be on the software testing radar in 2020, according to a variety of reports. Applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) have been leveraged in software test automation before. AI makes testing smarter. Teams can leverage AI/ML to optimize their automation strategies, adapt faster, and operate more effectively.

Software Testing Trends – Demands for Cybersecurity and Risk Compliance

The digital revolution brings about increasing security threats. CIOs and CTOs from almost every enterprise across all sectors continue to acknowledge the importance of security testing of their software, applications, network, systems. Software developing teams even work with their partners to make their products more resilient to threats, taking the cybersecurity shield to the next level.

Testing for security helps secure not only transactions (be it money or data), but also protection of their end-users. Because cyber threats can take place in any form, at any moment, security testing will continue to be a popular topic in the following year. Take a look at National Cyber Securitie’s info on Risk management guidance here.

Software Testing Trends – More data, better data

The development of data science creates multiple ways for QA teams to get test data. New frameworks and algorithms facilitate the process of test creation and increase case coverage. Using more tools for data gathering is a trend, one of the latest in software testing technology.

In 2020, testing teams will be able to obtain yet more testing data, recording user actions, and on-site behavior in detail. However, data gathering is not the main priority of the year. Instead, testing teams are looking for ways to process data efficiently and transform it into relevant insights.Storing data requires effort and money. The more information you store — the harder it is to navigate complex databases.

Software Testing Trends –Test Automation In Agile Teams

Test Automation was the top testing trend in 2019 when 44% of the IT companies used it for almost 50% of their testing, and in 2020 it is expected to only get higher. Test automation has become a significant tool in software testing because the number of organizations to adopt the Agile and DevOps methodologies for fulfilling the demand for quality is continuously increasing.

Test automation software helps in performing repetitive tasks, detecting bugs faster and more accurately, ensuring the coverage and providing continuous feedback loops. These are the reasons that IT organizations can save a lot of time, money and human resources if they use automated testing in their quality assurance process. Learn more about test automation here.

Apple Annual Events

Apple Product Releases tend to come in cycles. In an average year, Apple holds three to four events. There’s usually a spring event in March, the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, a September event that’s focused on iPhone and Apple Watch, and sometimes an October event if there are iPads or Macs expected in the fall.

In this guide, we’re keeping track of all of the Apple events that are on the horizon and what we’re expecting to see at each one, so make sure to check back in regularly

Apple Product Releases Update So Far

Apple’s first event of each new year typically happens in the spring, usually in March. We were expecting an event in March, perhaps on March 31, but the coronavirus outbreak across the world has delayed the plans or many global organisations and this includes Apple. The County of Santa Clara, which includes the city of Cupertino where Apple’s headquarters are located, has banned all large events over 1,000 people, which means Apple is unlikely to hold a March event. This does not however mean that Apple have not been updating their product lines in March 2020.

Apple have introduced a new MacBook Air and new iPad Pro models using press release in March. It’s not clear if additional product announcements are coming in March or in the spring months. There is however a possibility. We will keep you updated with the latest Apple Product Releases as and when they become available.

“iPhone SE 2”

Apple is working on a low cost 4.7-inch device that’s said to feature an A13 processor and an iPhone 8-style design with a Touch ID Home button and a single-lens rear camera.

Pricing on the new iPhone could start at $399 and will probably hold the same price tag of £399 in the UK. Despite the “iPhone SE 2” name this device is likely to be more similar to an iPhone 8. Rumours suggest the new 4.7-inch iPhone will be launching during the first half of 2020.

AirTags

Tile Fob Apple is working on an “AirTag” that will compete with products like Tile. This offers up Bluetooth tracking for items like keys, wallets and cameras. AirTags will integrate into the Find My app and will take advantage of offline tracking capabilities. There’s no word on when AirTags will launch. Keeps your eyes peeled for these new items.

High-End Bluetooth Headphones

B&O H9 HeadphonesA credible source has suggested that Apple will release high-end Bluetooth headphones early in 2020.

There were also rumours that Apple was working on Apple-branded high-end over-ear headphones. These will compete with other companies like B&O, Sennheiser, Bower & Wilkins and Grado.

Powerbeats 4

Apple is working on updated Powerbeats 4 earbuds, which could be similar to the Powerbeats Pro. But the will have a wire between the two earbuds. Leaks suggest the Powerbeats 4 will look similar to the Powerbeats 3, but with the wire connecting to the earhooks instead of connecting to the other side of the earbuds.

Small Wireless Charging Mat

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said Apple is working on a “smaller wireless charging mat”. No other context or information was provided on the upcoming product. Its therefore not clear if this wireless charging mat will be a scaled down version of the AirPower. This is a product that has previously been discontinued.

New MacBooks

Apple is also supposed;y working on a refresh for the MacBook Pro, which may come during the first half of 2020. Apple is rumoured to be working on a 13-inch version of the MacBook Pro with a scissor keyboard, so that could potentially launch in the first half of the year. According to MacRumours it was 412 days since the last Apple Product Releases of the MacBook Air.

WWDC

Apple has announced it will host its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2020. Now in its 31st year, WWDC 2020 will take on an entirely new online format packed with content for consumers, press and developers alike. Is this a necessary given the current global pandemic, or is this simply a sign of the times? The online event will be an opportunity for millions of creative and innovative developers to get early access to the future of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS, and engage with Apple engineers as they work to build app experiences that enrich the lives of Apple customers around the globe.

“We are delivering WWDC 2020 this June in an innovative way to millions of developers around the world, bringing the entire developer community together with a new experience,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The current health situation has required that we create a new WWDC 2020 format that delivers a full program with an online keynote and sessions, offering a great learning experience for our entire developer community, all around the world. We will be sharing all of the details in the weeks ahead.” So Apple is now even adapting its most important annual events in line with the Coronavirus crisis.

“With all of the new products and technologies we’ve been working on, WWDC 2020 is going to be big,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “I look forward to our developers getting their hands on the new code and interacting in entirely new ways with the Apple engineers building the technologies and frameworks that will shape the future across all Apple platforms.”
The WWDC 2020 program will provide Apple’s entire global developer community — which now includes more than 23 million registered developers in more than 155 countries and regions — and the next generation of app developers with the insights and tools needed to turn their ideas into a reality. Additional program information will be shared between now and June by email, in the Apple Developer app and on the Apple Developer website.
